One journey through a codebase nobody prepared.

We pointed Enscrive Code at Atuin, an open-source shell history tool we have never worked on, at commit 78366dc. Enscrive Code drew the board from the code alone. A fresh agent wrote the story of one journey on top of it, uploading synced history, and a second agent checked every sentence against the source.

Below is that board, exported as it was. Walk it yourself.

Walk the board yourself

Open it full screen ↗

Press Walk me through it, or pick a step: each one lights the code it cites. Click any box for what it is and why it sits in its lane. Every cite opens Atuin’s source on GitHub at the same commit. Nothing here calls Enscrive Code or a model; it is the board as Enscrive Code served it, saved to files.

The terminal sessions, as recorded

Real time, text you can select, and a speed control. Pauses longer than two seconds are shortened in this player. The home folder path is redacted to the same length (/home/xxxxxxxxxxx), so every frame lines up as it did; each recording’s provenance file gives the original’s hash.

The agent drafts the story

A fresh Claude Code session with the generic brief and Enscrive Code over MCP. About 58 seconds of agent work in a 10.6-minute take; the rest is the reader at the keyboard.

The agent revises from the checker’s report

The same session, continued: it reads the second agent’s sentence-by-sentence report and revises the story. About 35 seconds of agent work in a 2.6-minute take.

How this was made

What the code says, and what an agent wrote about it.

Drawn from the code

Deterministic. No model touched these.

  • The lanes, the hops and every box: where the request arrives, what can refuse it, what decides, what records.
  • The calls between them, solid where the compiler’s index confirms them, dashed with a probability where they are inferred.
  • The gates on the request edge: the UserAuth extractor and the capability-token check that refuses with 412.
  • What is missing, per box: the functions no test reaches, and any call the graph cannot see.

Written by agents

Curated, cited, and marked on the board as stated.

  • The story of the journey: a one-line summary and six steps, each sentence citing the code it describes.
  • Drafted by a fresh Claude agent (claude-sonnet-5-5) from a generic brief, with Enscrive Code connected; it also read source files directly.
  • Checked sentence by sentence against the source by a second agent, revised once by the first, then read again.

The numbers

The index
515 files, 12,570 items, 26,319 call edges. The compiler’s index raised compiler-certain calls from 15.3% to 43.1%.
The first draft
About 58 seconds of agent work. 22 cites, 6 of them on the journey the board draws.
The first check
25 sentences: 5 pass, 20 to change, 0 to remove.
The revision
19 of the 20 changes applied in full, 1 in part. 29 cites: 21 on the journey by an independent count, 24 by Enscrive Code’s own check.
The second check
29 sentences: 27 pass, 2 citation fixes pending.

What this does not show

One journey, on a popular public repository that the model has very likely seen before: the agent opened the upload handler before it listed a single route, so its choice of journey is no evidence that Enscrive Code guided it. The test that settles that question is a private repository no model has seen. It is still to come.
